MillionPlus, the Association for Modern Universities, has today (21 April) commented on the government’s announcement confirming that EU students applying for university places in the 2018/19 academic year will remain eligible for financial support.
Pam Tatlow, Chief Executive of MillionPlus, said:
“We welcome the government’s confirmation that EU students starting courses in the 2018/19 academic year will be eligible for loans for the duration of their course.
“With the Brexit negotiations scheduled to conclude in 2019 and a transition arrangement likely to be in place after that point, we would have liked to see the government give the same assurances to those students starting courses in 2019/20 as well.
“Looking ahead it will be important for the next government to demonstrate that Britain remains an open and attractive proposition for EU students. This could in part be achieved through a temporary residency scheme for those students post-Brexit that allows them to live and study in the UK with minimal restrictions, on the proviso that the same reciprocal arrangements apply to UK students who are accepted to study at universities and other institutions in EU states.”
