million+ responds to the government’s announcement to reduce investment in teaching
The Higher Education Funding Council for England has announced today (22 July) cuts to university funding grants for 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years following the government’s decision to reduce spending by £150m.
Responding to the announcement, Pam Tatlow, Chief Executive of the university think-tank million+ said:
“These cuts were expected, but it is still disappointing that the Government has chosen to further reduce investment in teaching. It is reassuring, however, that the Secretary of State highlights the importance of the Student Opportunity Allocation: this allocation is vital in meeting the government’s ambition to ensure that students from the most disadvantaged backgrounds are successful at university and it is crucial it is protected in future spending reviews.”
