The university think-tank million+ has commented on the report published by the RSA’s City Growth Commission which outlines how cities can create stronger, more inclusive and sustainable growth in the UK. The report touches on the role universities have to play in regional and national development which is a finding the university think-tank have highlighted in previous research.
Pam Tatlow Chief Executive, million+ said:
“The Commission’s recognition of the role of universities in regeneration is welcome. However the idea that city-regions should establish investment funds for research risks putting some areas of the country which have not yet recovered from the economic downtown at a further disadvantage.
“It is also difficult to see why additional support is needed to persuade graduates to stay in the region in which they have studied since the majority of graduates already study and work in the region in which they lived before going to university.”
