Modern universities are established institutions of higher education excellence and research, teaching over half of the entire student population of the UK. They are central to their communities, important drivers of economic growth and social mobility, regional and global players and entrepreneurial in their research and work with business and SMEs. These universities have long histories of delivering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and higher education qualifications and this was recognised by the then Conservative Government in the Further and Higher Education Acts of 1992, legislation which was supported by all parties and which has been highly beneficial for students and added to the UK’s global reputation for high quality education and research.
This year sees the 25th anniversary of these historic Acts gaining Royal Assent. In recognition of the contribution that modern universities and their graduates have, and will continue to make, we are delighted that the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Rt. Hon John Bercow MP has agreed to host a celebratory reception for MPs, Peers, Vice-Chancellors, Chancellors, Governors, staff, students, stakeholders and other friends.
EVENT IS BY INVITATION ONLY
