Modern universities have a long and well-established tradition of training a major part of the nursing workforce in the UK. 70% of nursing students were at modern universities in 2019-20.

It is estimated that, just based on their expenditure, Scottish modern universities contribute over £1.2bn to their regional economies per annum and are responsible for over 9,000 jobs.
